Parkinson Voice Project helps people with Parkinson’s and related disorders REGAIN and RETAIN their speech and swallowing.
Since 2008, we have treated patients in our Texas clinic at no charge. We have also provided free training in our SPEAK OUT! Therapy Program to more than 5,300 speech-language pathologists and 15,000 graduate students … but it isn’t enough.
Hundreds of thousands of people with Parkinson’s are losing their ability to speak and swallow because they do not have access to SPEAK OUT! Therapy. Their voices are disappearing. They are developing life-threatening swallowing complications.
The primary barrier is that most hospitals and clinics rely on insurance and Medicare reimbursement for speech therapy services. Unfortunately, this makes it impossible for patients diagnosed with a progressive, degenerative condition, like Parkinson’s, to receive the speech therapy they need. In addition, transportation issues and physical limitations are a major challenge for this patient population.
During the pandemic, the world became more “tech-savvy.” Parkinson Voice Project quickly recognized that online speech therapy was not only effective, but it was also convenient for the Parkinson’s population. Transportation challenges were eliminated! The homebound and those living in rural areas could now be treated! This was great news for people with Parkinson’s in Texas, but what about patients living in other parts of the United States?
Parkinson Voice Project is replicating our no-charge, online speech therapy program across America. One university speech therapy clinic in every state will be named a “SPEAK OUT! Therapy & Research Center.”
These Centers will treat patients, train graduate students, and conduct SPEAK OUT! efficacy research.
In December 2021, Parkinson Voice Project launched Our $20 Million Campaign To Reach America. This project will financially secure the speech therapy services and continuing education offered through our Texas clinic. In addition, this campaign will enable Parkinson Voice Project to collaborate with 50 university speech clinics to create the SPEAK OUT! Therapy & Research Centers so every person with Parkinson’s in America will have access to SPEAK OUT! Therapy.
Our Board of Directors, staff, and long-time supporters contributed the first $8,226,550 to the campaign.
Parkinson Voice Project has never been in debt. Since its inception in 2005, our organization has been fiscally responsible.
