This Privacy Policy describes how Parkinson Voice Project, Inc. (Parkinson Voice Project) collects, uses, and shares information about you in connection with your use of our website  (https://parkinsonvoiceproject.org), and webpages and content thereof (collectively, “Site”), and communications (e.g., emails, phone calls, and texts).   The Site and communications are collectively referred to herein as the “Services.”  The terms “we,” “us,” and “Parkinson Voice Project” each refer to Parkinson Voice Project, Inc., a non-profit corporation.

When you use the Services, you consent to our collection, use, and disclosure of information about you as described in this Privacy Policy.

Information Collection & Use

We may collect, transmit, and store personal information about you (“Personal Data”) in connection with your use of the Services, including any information you send to or through the Services, such as by registering, posting content, communicating with Parkinson Voice Project.   Personal Data includes information obtained directly from you that you voluntarily disclose, as well as information that may be automatically collected as a result of visiting the Site.

In particular, Personal Data may include without limitation, name, email address, mailing  address, telephone number, date of birth, IP address, and any other information that could be, alone or together, traced back to you as an individual.

While we do not request or require any personal information as a condition of your use of the Site, our server does log usage information. This includes your IP address, as well as some basic information about the device that you used to connect to the Site.

We may use the information we collect from you for lawful purposes including, but not limited to:

• Responding to user requests;
• Engaging in research and analysis relating to the Services;
• Personalizing your experience across the Services;
• Operating and improving the Services, including backing up our systems
• Enhancing security of the Services, including identifying and/or remedying potential security threats;
• Tracking usage of the Services;
• Providing feedback to third party partners;
• Marketing the Services;
• Providing user/customer support; and
• Complying with legal obligations;

all of the foregoing with your consent or for any other purpose stated at the time of collection.

Even when we do not retain such information, it still must be transmitted to our servers initially and stored long enough to process. 

Account Information

Through use of the Services, you may be asked to create a username and password to access content (“Account”). We may store and use the Personal Data and any other information you may provide during the Account creation process.

We may combine the Account information you provide through the Services with any information you provide to us through other channels. We may also receive information about you from third parties and combine it with the Account information that you provide.

• Account settings. We may store and use any preferences you provide to personalize your Account, If you believe that someone has created an unauthorized account using your personal information, you can request its removal by flagging it.
• Communications:When you sign up for an account or use certain features of the Services, you are opting to receive messages from Parkinson Voice Project. You can manage some of your messaging preferences through your account settings, but note that you cannot opt out of receiving certain administrative, transactional, or legal messages from Parkinson Voice Project. We may also store information that you provide through communications with us, including from phone calls, letters, emails and other electronic messages, or in person. Any of our communications with you, including any phone calls, may be monitored and recorded for quality purposes. 
• Transactions: If you initiate a transaction through the Services, such as making a donation or a purchase, we may collect and store information you provide associated with your transaction, such as your name, phone number, address, email, and payment information, as well as any other information you provide relating to the transaction, in order to process your transaction, send you communications related to the transaction, and to facilitate future transactions. We may also use aggregated or anonymized information regarding those transactions for analytics purposes and to improve the Services.  This information may be shared with third parties, and third parties may share such information with us, for the same purposes. When you submit credit card numbers and other sensitive payment information, that information is encrypted using industry standard technology.
• Activity:We may store information about your use of the Services, such as your search activity, the pages you view, and the date and time of your visits. We may also store information that your computer or mobile device may provide to us in connection with your use of the Services, such as your browser type, type of computer or mobile device, browser language, IP address, Wi-Fi information such as SSID, mobile carrier, phone number, unique device identifier, advertising identifier, location (including geolocation, beacon based location, and GPS location), and requested and referring URLs and mobile applications.
• Different Devices:You may access the Services through different devices (e.g., your mobile phone, personal computer, or other internet connected device) and different platforms. The information that we collect and store through those different uses may be cross-referenced and combined.

Cookies

We may use various cookies on the Site, including session ID cookies, non-persistent cookies, and persistent cookies.  A cookie is a text file sent by a web server to a web browser, and stored by the browser.  A text file is then sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server.  This enables the web server to identify and track the web browser, and load the pages according to a user’s preferences for that particular site, including personalization of content. Cookies are also used to gather statistical data, such as which pages are visited, what is downloaded, the ISP’s domain name and country of origin, and the addresses of sites visited before and after coming to the Site. 

We may send a cookie that can be stored by your browser on your computer’s hard drive, and use the information we obtain from the cookie in the administration of the Site, to ensure proper functioning of the Site, in terms of navigation and usability, and to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing efforts.

We may also use that information to recognize your computer when you visit the Site (if you select the “remember me on this computer” option), and to personalize the Site for you. Most browsers allow you to refuse to accept cookies.  Blocking cookies, however, can also have a negative impact on the usability of many web sites.  Cookies may have long-term expiration dates, or none, and thus can stay in your hard drive for months at a time.  While you can remove them as instructed by the help content in your chosen browser, disabling cookies will prevent you from using certain features of the Site.

We do not use cookies for advertising or marketing purposes.

Web-related Information Collection

We do not allow third-party ad networks to serve advertisements, provide other advertising services or collect other information about your use of the Services.  

Third-Party Websites

The Services may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

The Services may contain links to third party websites, and may redirect you to such third-party websites upon engagement. These sites include, among others, service providers who have a relationship with Parkinson Voice Project. Third party websites are not under our control, and we are not responsible for any third-party websites, or the accuracy, sufficiency, correctness, reliability, veracity, completeness, or timeliness of their information, links, changes, or updates. The inclusion or access to these websites does not imply an endorsement by Parkinson Voice Project, or of the provider of such content or services, or of any third-party website. Please be aware that when you enter a third-party website, any information you provide, including financial information, is subject to the terms of use and privacy notice of that website.

Your interactions with third-party entities and your use of their features, websites, and apps are governed by the privacy notices of those third-party entities. We encourage you to carefully read the privacy notices of any accounts and tools that you use.

Information Sharing

To operate the Services, we may share personal information we collect with third party affiliates and/or service providers, including electronic payment service providers, accountants, auditors, attorneys, information technology consultants, advisors, and business partners.  

While such third-party affiliates and service providers are not authorized by us to use or disclose the information except as necessary to perform services on our behalf or comply with legal requirements, their use of information is governed by their own privacy policies.

We may share our research or analysis of aggregated customer data or information we receive, but only in a way that would not allow you or any other person to be identified.

We may share information about you with United States, state, or international regulators, where we believe doing so is required or appropriate to comply with any laws, regulations, or other legal processes or law enforcement requests (e.g., court orders, search warrants, or subpoenas).
We may also disclose information about you with federal, state, or international regulators or authorities (i) where we believe doing so is required or appropriate to comply with laws or other legal processes, (ii) in response to a court order, search warrant, or subpoena from law enforcement or appropriate governmental body, (iii) when we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to prevent physical harm or financial loss or in connection with an investigation of suspected or actual illegal activity, or (iv) if necessary to protect the vital interests of another individual (such as to prevent death, bodily harm, or serious damage to property) . We reserve the right to transfer information about our users.

In the event we sell or transfer all or substantially all our business or assets, such as through a merger, acquisition, or bankruptcy, we reserve the right to transfer information about our users.

We may share information that has been de-identified or aggregated, or any other technical information, without limitation.

Your Choices

You have the right to request to opt out from your Personal Data being shared with unaffiliated third parties, and may exercise this right by contacting us at [email protected].  Please note that you may not be able to opt-out if the Personal Data is shared situations related to protecting against fraud, complying with certain legal and regulatory requirements, and required consumer reporting.  Further, opting-out may exclude you from being able to use some of the Services and in some cases may require deletion of your Account and associated data.

Analytics

We may also work with third parties that collect data about your use of the Service and other websites or apps over time. We use Google Analytics and other third-party services to improve the performance of the Service and for analytics and marketing purposes. Compliance with State and Federal Laws

This privacy policy may not constitute your entire set of privacy rights, as these may also vary from state to state. To be certain of your privacy rights, you may wish to contact the appropriate agency in your state that is charged with overseeing privacy rights of consumers. Certain regulations issued by state and/or federal government agencies may require us to maintain and report demographic information on the collective activities of our membership. We may also be required to maintain your personal information for at least seven years in order to comply with applicable federal and state laws regarding recordkeeping, reporting and audits.

‍If you are located in the European Economic Area (“EEA”), United Kingdom or Switzerland, you may ask us to take the following actions in relation to your personal data that we hold:

• Provide you with information about our processing of your personal data and give you access to your personal data.
• Update or correct inaccuracies in your personal data.
• Delete your personal data.
• Transfer a machine-readable copy of your personal data to you or a third party of your choice.
• Restrict the processing of your personal data.
• Object to reliance on our legitimate interests as the basis for processing of your personal data.

Applicable law may require or permit us to decline your request. If we decline your request, we will tell you why, subject to legal restrictions.

California Privacy Rights 

Pursuant to the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”), residents of California have certain rights concerning a business with which the California resident has an established business relationship regarding the Personal Data the business collects, uses and discloses.

California residents have the right to know what Personal Data a business has about them. California residents can obtain a report of this Personal Data once every twelve (12) months.

When California residents terminate their relationship with Parkinson Voice Project, they have the right to have their information forgotten, except to the extent the Site is prohibited by law from deleting the information.
