Sacred Heart University
Sacred Heart University’s mission aligns with the grant objective of delivering free-of-cost services to underserved community members. Individuals with Parkinson’s report a high prevalence of speech disorders, yet barriers to treatment, including lack of information, transportation, and limited service providers, negatively impact access to quality services. We are confident in our current infrastructure and expertise with the use of teletherapy to support the removal of these barriers for our community members with Parkinson’s disease.
Faculty within the Department of Communication Disorders are active researcher-clinicians with expertise in voice and neurogenic communication disorders. We are well-supported by the university to conduct research as evidenced by state-of-the-art clinical facilities, information technology, and library support, robust funding for graduate research assistants, research release time, and access to a range of high-technology equipment to assess voice (e.g., Computerized Speech Lab).
