Removing Barriers to Online Parkinson’s Speech Therapy: How Parkinson Voice Project Delivers SPEAK OUT!® Therapy Virtually

Healthcare has moved into virtual spaces. For many people with Parkinson’s, this shift presents a new challenge in knowing how to access care online. At Parkinson Voice Project, we see this challenge as an opportunity for us to empower people with Parkinson’s and their Care Partners with the skills, confidence, and tools they need to fully participate in the virtual world with INTENT.

Online therapy offers practical benefits for people with Parkinson’s. It reduces the stress of traveling to appointments, eliminates concerns about mobility challenges, and makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule. Virtual sessions offer a more comfortable, convenient way to receive care without sacrificing quality or connection.

These skills are relevant beyond our services. By learning how to successfully engage in online therapy, individuals and their Care Partners gain the confidence to access telehealth appointments with other healthcare providers.

Experts in Online Parkinson’s Speech Therapy

When the pandemic reshaped how healthcare was delivered, Parkinson Voice Project pivoted quickly to online therapy. This transition provided a strategic expansion of our mission to reach more people with Parkinson’s, regardless of geography or mobility challenges.

We have refined and strengthened our online offerings, becoming experts at delivering engaging, effective Parkinson’s therapy virtually. Our Certified SPEAK OUT! Providers understand both the complexities of Parkinson’s disease and the unique considerations of online therapy.

Today, online therapy is a permanent and essential part of how Parkinson Voice Project serves the Parkinson’s community.

Our Online Services

Parkinson Voice Project offers the following online services at no charge to individuals with Parkinson’s and their families. Individual SPEAK OUT! Therapy is available at no charge to Texas residents and through SPEAK OUT! Therapy & Research Centers nationwide. All other resources below are available to anyone, anywhere.

SPEAK OUT! Home Practice Sessions

These guided online practice sessions help participants reinforce daily speech and voice exercises. Daily practice is essential for maintaining strong speech and swallowing skills. These sessions provide structure, accountability, and encouragement. People with Parkinson’s complete their 20-minute practice session from the comfort of home and then get on with their day, speaking with INTENT.

“What Is Parkinson’s?” Video

This educational video offers a foundational understanding of Parkinson’s disease. It helps individuals and families better understand what Parkinson’s is, how it affects speech and swallowing, and why SPEAK OUT! Therapy is a critical part of maintaining speech, swallowing, and quality of life.

eLibrary for Daily Practice

The SPEAK OUT! eLibrary provides easy access to flashcards and other resources to keep daily practice engaging and fun. Family members and friends can also participate in daily practice alongside the person with Parkinson’s.

Virtual Parkinson’s Family Education Group

Parkinson’s affects the entire family. Our Virtual Parkinson’s Family Education Group provides education for Care Partners, other family members, and close friends.

These monthly sessions also provide Care Partners and families with resources, and a supportive community to navigate the Parkinson’s journey with INTENT.

Online, No Charge SPEAK OUT! Therapy in Texas

The pandemic fundamentally reshaped the healthcare landscape, but it also catalyzed the rise of telehealth. This shift allowed us to reach patients who could not access our Texas clinic in person. By removing the traditional barriers of transportation and mobility, highly effective, research-based SPEAK OUT! Therapy was now available to every resident in Texas.

Patients receive all the necessary speech therapy to REGAIN and RETAIN their speech and swallowing without worry of insurance restrictions or financial limitations. Once a patient enrolls in the program, they remain in it for the rest of their lives. Our motto is, “We’re in it with you for the long haul.”

Removing Barriers to Care

This commitment to online, no charge SPEAK OUT! Therapy extends to our SPEAK OUT! Therapy & Research Centers. Parkinson Voice Project is collaborating with university speech clinics across the United States to make the program accessible to every American. These SPEAK OUT! Therapy & Research Centers eliminate insurance and financial barriers for people with Parkinson’s by not charging for SPEAK OUT! Therapy. They eliminate transportation challenges by offering treatment ONLINE. They are providing hands-on training for their graduate students and conducting efficacy research on speech and swallowing disorders in Parkinson’s. The goal is to have one SPEAK OUT! Therapy & Research Center in every state. Learn more about Parkinson Voice Project’s $20 million Campaign To Reach America.
